Know what the result can and cannot do
Background segmentation predicts a subject mask; it does not know the scene perfectly. Hair, translucent objects, motion blur, and similar foreground/background colors need the closest review.

Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. The segmentation model runs inside your browser. The photo never leaves your device.
Does it work for products and pets, not just people?
Yes. The Quality and Max model tiers are general-purpose models trained on people, products, animals, and everyday objects.
What do the model tiers mean?
Fast (~5 MB) is instant and light. Quality (~43 MB) has clearly better edges. Max (~170 MB) resolves fine detail like hair. Each downloads once and is cached.
Is it free?
Yes - free, no sign-up, no watermark.
Can I export a solid color background?
Yes. Choose transparent PNG or a solid color fill such as white for marketplaces.
What if the model cannot load?
The tool falls back to a fast portrait segmentation path, so you always get a result.
